Mathematics
Kindergarten is a time when students begin to explore a variety of mathematical concepts, and develop the foundation they will need for future learning in math. Some of the concepts and skills covered in our kindergarten curriculum are listed below.
To teach math, I utilize a small group structure. Each day, I provide direct instruction in the form of a mini-lesson to the entire class. We use this time to review new concepts, practice skills, and warm up our brains for math! Then, students work in small groups. Throughout the week, students have the chance to play math games with a partner, work independently, practice math on their iPads, and meet with me to receive differentiated instruction. We use many different kinds of manipulatives to help students make abstract math concepts more concrete! On any given day, we may be using dice, Unifix cubes, pattern blocks, Cuisenaire rods, whiteboards, and more!
